Twechar Integrated Regeneration

Regeneration plans for Twechar have taken another step forward with Places for People commencing the process for the commissioning of proposed designs for the new housing in the village.

Places for People, one of the largest development and property management companies in the UK is currently in negotiations with East Dunbartonshire Council to undertake the overall Twechar Regeneration. Castle Rock Edinvar (CRE), as part of Places for People, has already been selected by the Twechar Regeneration Group (TRG) to own and manage the village’s new rented accommodation.

Places for People has invited three architects – Cooper Cromar, Hypostyle and jmarchitects - to submit proposals, with the plan being to appoint two firms. Each consultant architect has been asked to prepare an outline proposal for the development of part of the Davidson Crescent site.

A selection panel to assess the submissions has already been set up and will include two people from the local community as well as representatives from East Dunbartonshire Council, Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association and Places for People.

As part of the selection process the panel will take account of feedback on the proposals from the local community via an Open Day which will be held at the Healthy Living and Enterprise Centre (HLEC) on Tuesday 11th December from 12 noon to 8pm.

Following the selection process the successful firm(s) will work with a Design Group comprising members of the local community to develop the detailed design for each site in Twechar.

John Gray, Twechar Regeneration Manager, commented:

“I would urge as many local residents as possible to try and get along to the Open Day or to view the proposals online. This is a very important stage in the project to regenerate the village and we are keen to receive as much feedback as possible from local people.

“We would be happy to arrange transport for any elderly or disabled residents who might have difficulty in getting to the HLEC. Anyone requiring transport should contact the Centre on 01236 827154.
