Twechar showcases its green credentials

We are delighted to announce that the Twechar community, through an application made by Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association, as a partner of the Twechar Regeneration Group, has made it through to stage two of the Big Green Challenge.

The Big Green Challenge from NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) is a £1 million prize fund designed to encourage and reward people working together to develop and implement new approaches that will lead towards a 60 percent reduction of CO2 emissions in their communities.

Heather Macnaughton, Head of Neighbour-hood Regeneration at Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for the whole community to become involved in improving the green credentials of the village.

“There is already some excellent work going on in Twechar. The local primary school is a good example of this, but more can be done. The housing improvements will go a long way towards making homes more efficient, both in terms of new build homes and refurbishments to existing homes. Other changes in terms of changing people’s behaviours and looking at new ways to reduce, re-use and recycle can also make an enormous difference.”

A plan is currently being worked up to submit to the competition for stage two which will be judged in the summer. From the 100 remaining applicants in the competition across the UK, 10 will be selected to go forward to the final stage.

If you would like further information on the Big Green Challenge and find out how you can play your part please get in touch with Heather Macnaughton on heather.macnaughton@castlerockedinvar.co.uk or tel 0131 657 0633.
