TWECHAR RESIDENTS HAVE THEIR SAY
Twechar’s ambitious regeneration plans came under scrutiny on Tuesday 11th December 2007 when local residents turned out to voice their opinions on the proposed redevelopment plans for the village.
The Twechar Regeneration Group hosted an open day at the Healthy Living and Enterprise Centre (HLEC) where new housing proposals from three architects – Cooper Cromar, Hypostyle and jmarchitects – were put on display.
All those who attended were provided with a questionnaire and the feedback received on the day will help shape the decision on which architect(s) should be appointed to oversee Twechar’s new housing project.
That decision will be made by a selection panel incorporating community representation. The process will be overseen by Places for People (PfP) which is one of the largest development and property management companies in the UK. Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association Limited, part of the PfP Group, was selected by the Twechar Regeneration Group as the preferred Housing Association to be appointed to own and manage the village’s new rented accommodation.
Twechar Regeneration Manager John Gray said:
“The open day was a success and it was extremely encouraging to see so many people come along to the Centre and make sure that their voice was heard. This is such an important and ambitious project that it is important that local residents have their say.
“We’ve also made the proposals available online at www.thinktwechar.org and I would urge anyone who has yet to view submissions to log on and come back to us with their feedback.”
Following the selection process the successful architect(s) will work with a Design Group incorporating members of the local community, in order to develop the detailed design for each site in Twechar.
